Genesis

The universe was without form or substance…then You spoke and everything came into being. At Your command there was where there had been only darkness and life where there had been no life.

I cannot explain it but my very existence proves Your mighty power.

In the face of all this the human race which only exists by Your grace declares themselves wiser and more capable than it’s Creator.

I am guilty of this hubris when I think I can handle things without You. Forgive me my arrogance…remind me of my insignificance without You. It is You and You alone that gives my existence meaning and hope.

I am just one of untold millions of Americans too often deceived by this lie. Reveal Yourself fresh and new to us…don’t abandon America…rescue her.

Scripture: “In the beginning God (Elohim) created [by forming from nothing] the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

I love You…not for all the mighty things You’ve done, but simply because of who You are. You rescued me; gave me a place in Your family; love me and are my Rock.

Our colleges and universities…especially the elite ones…have become infested with people of great worldly wisdom. They are pursuing the allure of “…you can be like God, knowing good and evil.” But the allure is like a mirage and the harder we chase it, the thirstier and more frustrated we become.

Shine the truth of Your wisdom across this land. Teach us that there is no future in trying to replace Your truth with the wisdom this earth has to offer.

Save us from ourselves and reign again in our hearts. Begin with me!

Scripture: “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be open and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:5

As the serpent conclusively proved, honor and virtue are not innate within the heart of mankind. Our natural, unbridled instincts, are self-centered and debasing.

This truth is self-evident in the daily headlines we see cataloging man’s inhumanity to man. Self-sacrifice is as foreign to us as advanced calculus. It is a lie to believe we are basically good.

Honor and virtue are learned at the knee of the Creator and passed on from one generation to another. Honor and virtue require we be strong and immovable in defense of truth and the most vulnerable among us.

Only Your indwelling presence can empower us to live for others.

Help me live a life worthy of Your sacrifice. May I one day hear, “Well done my good and faithful servant.

Scripture: “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5

It is difficult to distinguish truth from the preferred narrative today. It seems everywhere…from all sides, the truth is held hostage to ensure facts and unbiased reporting don’t injure the storyline.

The story is told by every partisan (even me?) to promote the preferred outcome.

If only life were that convenient…but, since the garden, our opinions trump God’s.

Neither hurt feelings nor wishful thinking nor repeated lies will prevail. Reality will not be contradicted. God’s truth will overcome all of the enemy’s deceit and depravity. His righteous judgment is inevitable.

My “goodness” will not save me…neither will my protestations of ignorance…nor my insistent that I am right and God is wrong.

Help me acknowledge my need, bend my knee and help me bring others before it’s too late.

Scripture: “No! You will not die,” the serpent said to the woman. “In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5

I fear for our children, we have become a nation so motivated to live in a fantasy and so hostile to the truth that nearly 1/3 of us believe in the fake science that denies the truth, claiming instead gender is fungible…but scripture says God uniquely created man and woman.

The danger this 33% and growing number presents is that in boldly denying God’s plan, they actually believe doctors can “fix the problem” are overpowering reason in their attempt to mutilate children and destroy their futures. Sadly, the response from science and from believers is muted and so far, ineffective.

Where are the brave men and women among us willing to stand for the truth, reject the nonsense and defend our children? God, give me the courage to enter the battle.

Scripture: “So God created humans to be like himself; he made men and women.” Genesis 1:27

Before the universe was formed by Your spoken word, all Your actions have been without error. Every star has been perfectly set in place.

Each detail of planet Earth was a stoke of unmatched genius.

Mankind was thoughtfully created without flaw or blemish. The pain and imperfection so evident today…every blemish and every heartache are not the
result of God’s failure…but stem directly from our rebellion.

God did not trap a woman or a man in the wrong body. Our arrogance to think we can “fix” God’s mistakes with a scalpel and an injection is demeaning and unbelievably cruel to the victim and totally delusional.

Forgive me each time I think I know better than You how to repair the brokenness of America. Teach me to fight for Your truth from my knees.

Scripture: “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” Genesis 1:31

My heart is broken today for the thousands of families hurting and broken in America.

You designed the nuclear family for our good…mankind, in our infinite wisdom, has declared a Godly family structure is not to be prized above any other. No fault divorce, single parent homes or same sex parental homes are celebrated and promoted in our civilized, “non-judgmental” culture. While parents are free to abandon their responsibilities, we are left to confront the broken society we have created. Our country is broken, dysfunctional and dangerous because our families are broken and dysfunctional. What about our children? Our children are broken because our families are broken. Who is to guide them?

Lord, please fix our broken homes before it’s too late.

Scripture: “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” Genesis 2:24

Thank You for loving me in spite of my failures. Thank You for accepting me into the fellowship of Your family. I know I am never alone in life.

How important is a community to my well-being? Studies show that just one interactive voice conversation daily with a friend measurably improves my satisfaction with myself and with my life. Not computer chat…not Facebook “likes”…not leaving a message…a live verbal interchange with another human being. We were created to interact with others. Isolation and loneliness are harmful to our physical and mental health.

Lord, help me to engage others in the positive uplifting conversation each day. Teach me how to truly listen and care about those around me and to bring a little of You into their lives.

Scripture: “And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone…” Genesis 2:18a

I am concerned America has become a world of fantasy…of make-believe…a place where everything is detached from truth.

Hollywood elites rail about gun violence and climate change, but their movies glorify violence and from their profits, they fly private jets and live in mansions creating carbon footprints many times larger than the average American. America’s political leaders decry the state of our country, but it’s always someone else’s fault. They give speeches about solutions they never intend to implement. They do not intend to threaten the status quo. Living in a “dress up” world does not change reality. America is badly broken. We’ve been deceived by villains. Our future has be jeopardized by the darkness that permeates everything.

We need Your lantern of light to lead us back to You. Rescue us.

AMEN

“The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.” Genesis 6:5

You created the human race distinct from all other creation and gave us eternal souls. The sanctity of every human life is at the essence of Your creation. I am deeply aware of how much You love me but no more than You love each of us.

America has abandoned respect for the unborn in a mad rush to promote casual sex…recreational sex without consequences. This profanity of human life leads to disrespect for one another. It coarsens our language. It makes public discourse impossible and creates deep divisions among us.

Father, help me be a bridge. Help me represent the sanctity of life with grace and love. Teach me to treat everyone with respect because each of us is created in Your image and is valuable beyond estimate.
